Person Fatally Struck By Train In Delaware
CLAYMONT, Del. (CBS) -- Officials confirm an Amtrak-Acela Express train fatally struck a trespasser on the tracks north of the Claymont station in Delaware late Thursday afternoon.
Authorities say the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. and the train was going from Boston to Washington.
Officials say none of the 297 passengers on board at the time were injured.
Amtrak says the passengers are still on the train as plans have not yet been finalized as to whether or not to transport them to another train or remain there until the scene is cleared.
The train is currently stopped for the investigation and two of the four tracks are closed, which may lead to delays, according to Amtrak.
SEPTA was also affected on the Wilmington-Newark Regional Rail line due to the accident.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m., SEPTA said service on the Wilmington/Newark line had resumed. passengers may experience residual delays.
