Penn State Student Killed In Hotel Van Crash

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Authorities say a Penn State student driving a university hotel van died after crashing the vehicle near campus.

Police and Penn State officials haven't yet released the name of the male student who was killed Sunday about 2 p.m.

He was driving a shuttle for the Penn Stater, one of two hotels owned and operated by the university.

Police say the driver missed an exit ramp for the hotel and tried to make the turn anyway, hitting a sign post and a concrete barrier.

The student was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center, where he died.

Several bystanders tried to pull the driver from the van, which caught fire after the crash. He was freed after emergency crews arrived.
