Pedestrian Struck And Killed On Route 55 In Sewell, New Jersey

SEWELL, NJ. (CBS) -- New Jersey state police are investigating a deadly accident overnight along Route 55 in Gloucester County.

It happened around 5 a.m. Saturday just north of Exit 53 in Sewell.

Police say a passenger vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian. Pedestrians are prohibited on the road, authorities say, but they say it's unclear why the victim was there.

Police say the driver remained at the scene and no charges are expected.

The victim's identity was not immediately known.

Authorities shut down the northbound side of Route 55 while they investigated the accident.
