Officials Provide Update On Papal Visit, Including Parking Information For Residents Impacted

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Officials released new details about the papal visit Thursday, including parking information for residents within the secure zone.

Officials say if you park your car in either the Secure Perimeter or Secure Vehicle Perimeter you will need to relocate your vehicle or you will be towed.

Towing in the Center City area will begin Sunday, September 20The city says all no parking areas will receive one-week notice, and signs will be posted by Monday, Sept. 14.

City officials say about 1,500 parking spots will be available for free beginning that week at the Naval Hospital at 1600 Pattison Avenue.

The Philadelphia Parking Authority says they will pre-sell spaces in designated garages for residents to park their vehicles.  The cost is $20 and allows vehicles to park in their garages beginning Thursday, September 24 at 6 p.m., through Monday September 28. However, if the vehicle has a current, valid Residential Parking Permit, the $20.00 fee will be waived. After a vehicle has entered, it will not be permitted to leave until traffic restrictions are lifted on Monday, September 28.

  • Family Courthouse Garage– 15th & Arch Streets
  • Old City AutoPark– 2nd & Sansom Streets
  • Jefferson AutoPark– 10th and Ludlow Streets
  • The Gallery Mall AutoPark - 9th & Filbert Streets
  • Chestnut Street Surface Lot– 8th & Chestnut Streets

 

The PPA says residents who purchase a parking space in one of their garages will be issued a placard which will exempt their vehicle from towing until 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 24. Residents who pre-purchased a space can begin parking in their garages on Thursday, September 24 at 6 p.m.

In order to pre-purchase a space, please bring a proof of residence, which can include:

  • Driver's License
  • Vehicle Registration
  • Utility Bill
