Parents Decide To Name Baby Born On Flight From Philly "Jet"
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A plane from Philadelphia landed unexpectedly with an extra passenger on board.
The plane, a Southwest Airlines flight originally on its way to Orlando was diverted to Charleston, South Carolina after a woman went into labor midair.
Naturally, mom and dad decided to name their new bundle of joy, "Jet."
The parents tell officials that the name "Jet" on was their list even before his mid flight arrival on their way home following a baby shower in Pennsylvania.
The Medical University of South Carolina Children's Hospital says they are "honored to have Baby Jet here with us in our Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Jet was born at 26 weeks' gestation, so 14 weeks early, weighing 1020 grams, or slightly more than two pounds."
Hospital officials say once he arrived at the hospital, Jet was placed on a ventilator and given medicine to help with his breathing.
The hospital says he is surrounded by his parents and family and will experience 24/7 care. Jet is in critical condition at this time.
The family has declined to release their full names, but they thank the public for their well wishes.
