Pa. Unemployment Rate Lowest Since Nov. 2008

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Officials say Pennsylvania's unemployment rate dropped to 6.4% in January.

That's the lowest rate for the commonwealth since November 2008, when the rate was 6.2%. The national rate was 6.6% in January.

And the number of people working or looking for work in the state was down 8,000 in January to 6,416,000.

Over the past year, officials say total nonfarm jobs in Pennsylvania were up 28,400, a growth of .5%. That growth was primarily in the service industry, with the largest gains in leisure and hospitality and professional and business services.
