PA Senate Considering Gov. Wolf's Nominee For AG

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Pennsylvania senate wasn't due back in Harrisburg for about a month, but they're coming back next week to consider Governor Tom Wolf's nominee to replace Kathleen Kane as attorney general.

"They're responding really responsibly by getting this done as quickly as possible so that we can move on with a new attorney general," Wolf said.

The state senate wasn't supposed to be back until the last week of September, but they'll return Tuesday to consider the governor's nomination of Bruce Beemer.

"I have a lot of confidence in him," Wolf says. "I think he's a great choice and obviously both democrats and republicans thought so too."

If confirmed, Beemer could be sworn in as early as Tuesday to finish out the term which ends in January. Wolf nominated him the day after Kane resigned following her conviction in Montgomery County on multiple felony perjury and obstruction charges.

Wolf did not share his opinion on the house impeachment investigation continuing despite Kane's resignation. But he did say he plans to review the impending report from the man Kane hired to investigate offensive emails sent and received on state accounts.

Notice reportedly went out this week to those named in the report. Wolf says anyone involved in the email scandal could face punishment.
