PA Senate Expected To Send Budget To Governor Today

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) --- On the last day of the fiscal year, the state Senate today is expected to send Governor Wolf a Republican-drafted budget, a spending plan the Democratic governor says he will at least partially veto.
Lawmakers spent Monday advancing budget companion bills. The House passed one of those known as the fiscal code, which implements the spending detailed in the main budget bill that Democrats say is loaded with gimmicks.
Joe Markosek, ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, likened the fiscal code to a manual. "A manual that drives a vehicle that won't move and won't go anywhere," he said.
Governor Wolf's spokesman said again Monday Wolf will not decide whether to veto the entire budget or use his line-item veto until it reaches his desk.
The governor, meanwhile, sent a letter to state workers and budget stakeholders on Monday. He told state workers they will continue to be paid, and vowed to work with all of those who may be affected by a delayed budget.
