Pa. Health Secretary Outlines Plans For Temporary Medical Marijuana Regulations
HARRISBURG (CBS) -- Pennsylvania's Health Secretary says temporary medical marijuana regulations will be rolled out in the coming months as the agency works to draft permanent guidelines.
Health Secretary Karen Murphy says that the first temporary regulations, which will allow minors with serious health conditions to access medical marijuana from other states, are expected next month. And more temporary rules will follow.
"We are planning to issue the remaining temporary regulations sequentially, for dispensers, physicians, patients, caregivers, laboratories, and medical research," Murphy said.
But while young people will be able to access medical marijuana from other states soon, and most of the temporary regulations should be ready by the end of the year, Murphy says adult patients will have to wait until medical cannabis is grown and available in Pennsylvania. A medical marijuana program director is expected to be hired this summer. The full roll out of the program is expected to take 18 to 24 months.
