Pa. Casino Regulators Hear Sugarhouse Request For 3-Year License Renewal

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board today was hearing testimony from Sugarhouse Casino officials about why the casino's license should be renewed.
With an army full of casino employees seated behind them at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, Sugarhouse officials made a case for the casino's license to be renewed for another three years.

Management spoke about how the gambling hall has been a responsible neighbor in Fishtown while keeping more than 1,200 jobs in the city.
Doug Harbach, a spokesman for the Gaming Control Board, wouldn't go as far as saying this will be a rubber-stamp approval, but admitted that turning it down is unlikely.
"We do need to look at them with great scrutiny. The law depends upon on to make sure that only casinos that are suitable have licenses. Up to this time, however, we have not denied the renewal of a license in Pennsylvania."
A final decision isn't expected for another two or three months.
