I-76 in Montgomery County reopens following truck fire

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. (CBS) -- A vehicle fire on Interstate 76 near Conshohocken closed the highway for nearly 12 hours Sunday.

Traffic cameras via 511pa.com showed traffic flowing again in both directions on I-76 just after 1 p.m.

Pennsylvania State Police said they were called about a vehicle fire around 12:50 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of I-76 between Exit 331B/PA 23 and Exit 338 (Green Lane/Belmont Avenue). First responders located a truck that was on fire, prompting the lanes to close around 1 a.m.

According to PSP, officials don't know what caused the fire, but said no one was hurt in the incident.

Kevin Sartwell was one of many travelers Sunday who faced an unexpected travel adventure.

"I was on I-76 and my GPS told me that there was something going on and my truck directed me to get off," Sartwell said. He said the detour was going to add about 30 minutes to his trip. "Especially when you don't know where you're going, so you got to pay attention. The other way I was pretty familiar with."

Tori Smick, who lives in Conshohocken, also got caught up in the congested traffic.

"As I was getting off the ramp, 76 was closed, so everyone in the three lanes was trying to get over into the one lane. Just to get off the ramp to Conshohocken there was a lot of stop and go traffic."

However, she said she didn't mind a few more people stopping into her hometown.

"It's nice every once in a while to have a little action here in Conshohocken," Smick said.
