Orthopedic Boot Left At 2012 Murder Scene Leads To Charges For Camden Man
CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) – A Camden man was arrested for a 2012 murder solved by an unusual piece of evidence found at the scene.
Police say William Davis, 24, was charged with Murder on Wednesday of last week and was arrested on Friday.
He's accused of shooting Dontae Perkins, 25, also of Camden, back on Dec. 5, 2012.
According to police, the "key to solving the case" was an orthopedic boot discovered at the scene of the crime about a year and a half ago.
The boot was recovered by a detective from the sidewalk near Perkins' body, and another Camden Police Detective, Madrid Matthews, remembered seeing the suspect wearing an identical boot when he responded to a non-fatal shooting a few days earlier. During that incident, Davis had been shot in the foot. He also lived across the street from where Perkins was shot.
Police say Davis and Perkins had argued before the shooting.
Davis is scheduled to be arraigned Monday, June 16th.
