1 Dead, 4 Officers Injured In Germantown House Fire

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A fire claimed the life of a man in Germantown and sent four police officers to the hospital, who were first to arrive on scene.
Flames broke out around 11 p.m. Sunday inside a three-story home in the 800 block of E. Chelten Avenue.
Authorities say when firefighters arrived, four police officers were already there with fire extinguishers. Fire officials say there was smoke on the second floor and they quickly placed the blaze under control.
Authorities say they found a man dead in a room on the second floor. The victim's identity was not immediately released.
Fire Commissioner Derrick Sawyer said alarms did sound and three people were able to escape to safety.
The four officers were taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center where they were treated for smoke inhalation.
The Office of Licenses and Inspections will investigate whether or not the apartment was part of an illegal boarding home.
The American Red Cross is helping the three people who were displaced.
The cause of the deadly fire remains under investigation.
