PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The fire marshal is investigating a suspicious, fast moving overnight fire that injured two people at an apartment building in Northwest Philadelphia.

The flames broke out around 2:20 a.m. Sunday at Chestnut Terrace Apartment Complex along the 7400 block of Stenton Avenue in Mount Airy.

Fire crews arrived and rescued two people who were trapped inside the burning building.

A man was rushed to Temple University Hospital with second degree burns. A woman was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center where she was treated for smoke inhalation.

Investigators say there were two separate fires, one that began in the first floor hallway and another in the hallway on the third floor. Officials believe that gasoline may have been used to start the fires, deeming them suspicious. One person was taken into custody for questioning.

Firefighters got the blaze under control about 35 minutes later.

The Red Cross was assisting tenants who had to be evacuated.
