Off-Duty Police Officer Fatally Shot In Delco Home

GLENOLDEN, Pa. (CBS) – Police say an off-duty Darby Borough officer was shot and killed Saturday afternoon inside a Glenolden, Delaware County home.

Police responded to reports of shots being fired just after 4:30 p.m. at a home on the 600 block of Magnolia Drive.

Police say they found the 26-year-old officer, identified as Mark Hudson, in an upstairs bedroom with a gunshot wound to his chest. The officer was taken to Presbyterian Hospital where he later died.

The circumstances of the shooting are still unclear as an investigation continues.

Neighbors tell CBS 3 Eyewitness News someone was led out of the house in handcuffs, but police have not confirmed anyone is in custody. Police did say a female was present at the home when they arrived and that nobody is currently on the loose..

Neighbors also say they heard arguments inside the home.

Hudson was a four-year veteran and is described by Upper Darby Borough Police Chief Bob Smythe as a "shining star in the department:"

"He was an even-tempered, nice guy.  Anybody that met him, he always had a good word for them. He knew how to talk to people and handle people.  He was a part-time officer that worked on the squad."

An investigation continues.
