Obama: 'Ronald Reagan Would Roll Over In His Grave' Of Republicans Approving Of Putin

WASHINGTON, D.C. (CBS/CNN) -- President Barack Obama believes that former President Ronald Reagan would not be pleased with Republicans for approving of Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

"There was a survey where now, this is just one poll, but credible source, 37 percent of Republican voters approve of Putin," Obama said during his end-of-the-year press conference. "Over a third of Republican voters approve of Vladimir Putin, the former head of the KGB. Ronald Reagan would roll over in his grave."

Obama asserted Friday that his September confrontation with Putin prompted Moscow to cease its cyber intrusion into the U.S. election.

During a meeting on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in China, Obama said he insisted Putin "cut it out" and told him "there were going to be serious consequences if he didn't.

"In fact we did not see further tampering of the election process," Obama said. "But the leaks through Wikileaks had already occurred."
