Nuclear Information Center In South Jersey Celebrates 5 Year Anniversary
By David Madden
SALEM, NJ (CBS) -- The company that operates three nuclear reactors in Salem County tomorrow will celebrate the five year anniversary of their effort to keep the public informed about their work and nuclear power in general.
The Energy and Environmental Resource Center ,operated by PSE&G Nuclear in the city of Salem, has served as a learning facility of sorts, according to utility spokesman Joe Delmar.
"We've had more than 25 thousand students and community stakeholders come through our doors and engage in conversations with us about energy and the environment."
And while many of them are students on a science field trip, Delmar says there have been visitors from as far away as California, Russia and Japan and they're shown not just the merits of nuclear power, but other sources of energy like solar panels and wind turbines.
There's even a mock containment structure on site to demonstrate safety procedures inside a nuclear plant.
