83-year-old woman stabbed to death in North Philadelphia, police say

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police said an elderly woman died Wednesday night after a stabbing in North Philadelphia.

Officers responded to the 2900 block of North 27th Street around 8:15 p.m. after learning an 83-year-old woman was stabbed once in the neck on the front porch of a home.

The woman, identified by police as Dolores Robinson, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Authorities said witnesses told homicide detectives there was an altercation on the porch before the stabbing.

No weapon was recovered and no one was arrested in connection to the stabbing, but police said a man was later taken into custody following a standoff on the same street.

Investigators said it's unclear if the standoff, which began after someone reported a strong gas odor, and stabbing were related.

The bomb squad was called to check on a device found on the second floor of the home where the arrest was made, and several properties on the block were evacuated.
