NJ Man Convicted Of Murder In Girlfriend's Dragging Death

READING, Pa. (AP) — A New Jersey man already behind bars for severely injuring his ex-girlfriend in 2008 is now convicted of her murder.

A Berks County jury on Wednesday found 26-year-old Michael Morrone guilty of third-degree murder in the death of Christine McGhee, who was left in a vegetative state for nearly three years after being dragged across a Kutztown University parking lot in 2008.

Prosecutors said Morrone sped off when McGhee, a Kutztown student from Warminster, Bucks County, was standing on his pickup truck's running board.

Morrone, of Marlton, N.J., was charged with murder after a coroner determined that McGhee died in March 2012 of brain injuries from the incident.

Morrone is currently jailed from his 2010 aggravated assault conviction in the case.
