NJ Assembly Taking Up 6 Domestic Violence Bills
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey lawmakers are taking up a half-dozen bills aimed at preventing domestic violence.
Among the measures up for a vote in the Assembly on Monday is one that would allow victims of domestic violence to testify via closed-circuit video, rather than be required to appear in the courtroom with the suspected offender.
Some women's shelter workers say that would be crucial in protecting women who agree to testify. But court officials say there could be some logistical complications.
The bills being considered also include four of five measures advanced last week by an Assembly committee.
But the full chamber is not yet taking up a measure aimed at helping get victims of domestic violence out of jail.
