NEXT Weather: scattered showers and storms, severe weather ahead
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Scattered showers and storms are expected to form this afternoon into the evening. There is a severe weather threat for Sunday with strong storms and a flash flood watch issued from midnight tonight through midnight Sunday night.
Pop-up showers are expected to clear out later Saturday evening, but stronger storms are projected to sweep into the Delaware Valley overnight between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m. Sunday.
The current track for the heaviest rain is from the I-95 corridor south and east over all of South Jersey and Delaware. This also includes parts of the Philadelphia area. This track could shift north and west, so stay aware of the flooding potential.
Additionally, more scattered showers and storms will form throughout the afternoon some of which could have torrential downpours and damaging winds.
Parts of our area will receive less than 1 inch of rain while those under slow moving storms could see 3 to 6 inches of rain.
If any of the sotrms turns severe Sunday the main threats will be damaging winds, intense lightning and large hail. This is not a favorable set-up for tornadoes but can never rule out completely. Flash flood warnings are possible throughout the day Sunday.
Calm weather and sunshine are expected to return on Monday. However, towards the tail end of the week rain chances are expected to pick up.
