New Survey Singles Out Worst Tippers In America

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A new survey pegs Millennials as the worst tippers when they go out to eat in a restaurant.
According to a new Harris Poll online survey, those between the ages of 18 and 34 often tip less than the national average:
So what are some first thoughts when a server sees someone of that age come in?"
"Usually that I don't expect a good tip. As far as that age group, I think people generally pretend they have a lot more money than they actually do."
The survey indicated tipping behaviors are sometimes geographical or even gender related.
"I feel like guys maybe feel weird to ask for change as women are like, 'can I have change for this, can you put $6 on this card, $10 on this card?'"
Data collected shows one in three Millennials admitted to tipping less than 15 percent when dining out:
"Maybe they don't know how much you should tip yet?"
"How do you not know how to tip a proper percentage? I firmly believe they're extremely cheap or they don't have a lot of money."
"I mean, I didn't really know until I started working in the restaurant exactly how much you should be tipping."
This waitress sets the record straight; how much should we tip in the Philadelphia area?
"20% I would say. 18%-20%. Most people tip 20%."
