New Plan Aims To Improve Parks, Trails In Montgomery County
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Montgomery County commissioners are backing a plan that could result in the largest expansion of county parks and trails in the county in more than a quarter-century.
The plan comes from collaboration between the Montgomery County Open Space Board and the county's Parks, Trails, and Historic Sites Advisory Board.
"Roughly $15-million worth of investments we could make over the course of about a five-year period," says Chairman of county commissioners, Josh Shapiro.
Some examples include increased reservoir access at Green Lane Park, extending the Pennypack Trail, finishing the Chester Valley trail from Norristown to South Gulph Road, and expanding park facilities at Peter Wentz Farmstead.
Shapiro calls parks and trails an important part of the county.
"From an economic perspective, it drives home values up," he says, "and it drives local economy around parks, and around trails and around open spaces."
