New Jersey State Police Adding 200 Patrols For Labor Day Weekend

WEST TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — State police say they will have 200 additional patrols this Labor Day weekend.

Police said Friday in a statement the troopers will be on the lookout for intoxicated and aggressive drivers as well as helping broken down motorists.

Authorities say in 2014 four people died on New Jersey roads during the Labor Day weekend. Two of the deaths involved alcohol.

State Police superintendent Col. Rick Fuentes says statewide crash fatalities are down by 7.6 percent this year compared to last year.

He says the additional patrols are being added to help drivers arrive where they're going safely.

The state police marine and aviation units will also be patrolling waterways.
