New Bike And Pedestrian Bridge Coming To Valley Forge

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Excitement is building for a new bike and pedestrian bridge that will connect Valley Forge park and the Schuylkill River Trail.
"We are very much looking forward to the end of the 422 catwalk," said Pat Madden, acting Valley Forge Historical Park superintendent.
He got a round of applause from the cyclists in attendance at a recent event referencing the highly anticipated opening of the brand new Sullivan's Bridge.
"We are happy to leave high-adventure in national parks to our sister parks, Grand Teton, Rainier, and Denali," said Madden.
That 422 catwalk is a rickety, uneven, don't-look-down, four-foot-wide wood-plank bridge high above the Schuylkill River, and separated by 422 traffic by just a chain link fence.
The new Sullivan's Bridge 14 feet wide and 604 feet long is set to open in July. It's named for Major General John Sullivan, tasked with building a bridge across the Schuylkill during the Continental Army's winter encampment.
