Nearly 800 St. Mary Medical Center Nurses Set To Strike Starting Tuesday Over Alleged Staffing Issues

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Nearly 800 nurses at St. Mary Medical Center in Bucks County plan to strike, starting Tuesday through Wednesday. The nurses are members of the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals.

The union's main sticking point is what they call unsafe staffing levels.

They say it has worsened amid the pandemic and they also say nurses are leaving because they are underpaid.

In a statement the hospital says the union "rejected increased wage offers made by St. Mary on Nov. 13 ... Qualified, professional agency nurses have been hired to provide care during the strike in collaboration with the remainder of our exceptional clinical teams."
