PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Vice President of Policy Analysis from the Commonwealth Foundation, Nate Benefield, criticized Governor Tom Wolf's handling of the budget process and called him out of step with the rest of the commonwealth.

Speaking with Talk Radio 1210 WPHT's Dom Giordano, Benefield referenced that Wolf has been identified as one of the most liberal governors in America.

"It might surprise some folks around the country that the Governor of a swing state like Pennsylvania is the most liberal but not at all to us that have followed this and looked at his tax increase proposal, which is not only the largest increase in the country, but actually larger than 49 other states combined, with an increase of $1400 more per family of four every year."

He complained that the Governor's handling of the budget process shows Wolf is not connected to the residents of Pennsylvania.

"Voters, they did elect Wolf but they also elected large Republican majorities in the House and Senate. It's not just those Republicans that are against some of Tom Wolf's proposals. When they actually held a vote on his $4.6 Billion tax increase, it got zero votes. Including zero from any Democrat lawmakers. It really is that he's not only out of touch with the Republicans, but with his own party."

Benefield predicted that if the budget impasse lasts much longer, groups and organizations that people count on will stop receiving funding.

"Because he vetoed the entire budget, money is not going out. Workers still get paid and [residents] are still going to have to pay their taxes [but] agencies are not going to paid, non-profits are not going to get their money, and schools eventually are going to be missing their payments from the state."
