Mother, Daughter Drown While Kayaking On Delaware River
DELAWARE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a northwestern New Jersey woman and her adult daughter drowned after their kayaks overturned on the Delaware River.
Hunterdon County prosecutors say authorities received a report around 8:15 p.m. Friday that two kayakers were in distress in the waterway, just north of Bull's Island State Park.
Several rescue boats were launched, and a passer-by in a boat was able to pull one of the women out of the water. The other woman was found on the Pennsylvania side of the river, but both of them were pronounced dead a short time later.
Prosecutors say the women — 45-year-old Doris Rake and her 19-year-old daughter, Katheryn Haney, both of Raritan Township — were experienced kayakers. But they were not wearing personal floatation devices.
