By Dan Wing
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- A prayer service and memorial balloon release was held Tuesday morning outside of Philadelphia Police Department's 22nd District Headquarters in honor of an officer killed 3-years ago today.
About 50 people, mostly family, friends, and coworkers of Officer Moses Walker, Jr., attended the prayer service which was capped off with the balloon release.
Those in attendance were asked to attach a prayer card with the name of a lost loved one or just a general prayer for the city to the balloons, calling for peace in the city in Officer Walker's name.
During the service, Officer Walker's mother wanted to remember him as not just a cop, but as a good man.
"We have wonderful memories of him that hold our family together," she said. "He loved the community, he loved his church, he loved his family, and we miss him."
Officer Walker was a 19-year veteran of the force who was shot and killed during an apparent robbery attempt three years ago after finishing his shift.
The community prayer was led by Officer Walker's friend, Pastor Marc Poland.
