Morning Fog...Flood Watch And Severe Weather Threat

By Kathy Orr

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Areas of fog will greet us Friday morning, some will be locally dense, so take it slow during the morning commute.

Southwesterly Winds will increase during the day, driving temperatures into the 50's again.

A cold front will cross the area Friday afternoon bringing rain, and some gusty thunderstorms. The combination of snow melt, due to warming temperatures, and ½" to 1" of rain that is expected, is raising concerns of flooding.  Street flooding and poor drainage flooding are possible but also creek, stream and river flooding.

The Neshaminy River @ Langhorne, The Brandywine River @ Wilmington, The Schuylkill River @ Norristown and the Rancocas River at Pemberton are forecast to be Near Flood Stage.

There is also a slight risk of Severe Weather in the form of damaging winds for extreme Southern New Jersey and Central & Southern Delaware. The storms will pass through the Lehigh Valley between, 12noon and 3pm, the Philadelphia area between, 1pm and 4pm, and S. NJ and Delaware between 2pm and 5pm. The rain will clear the coast by 6pm.

The weekend looks quiet and mild,  with temperatures in the 50's, however… The European model (Euro) and the American Model (GFS) are suggesting a light band of snow showers crossing our area overnight Sunday into Monday morning.

Most of us will sleep through this, but if it happens, some spots could wake up to a dusting Monday morning.

Also, we are keeping a close eye on the middle of next week. The Euro and GFS are indicating the potential for a storm to move offshore, giving us a chance of snow Tuesday and perhaps a glancing blow of snow on Wednesday. While it's too early to determine exact impacts, it definitely looks like Tuesday-Wednesday of next week will be a return to reality, in the form of very cold air and at least the chance for a little more snow.

Have a great weekend!

Kathy
