Montgomery County Businessman Nominated For Pennsylvania Treasurer

By Tony Romeo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Governor Wolf has nominated one venture capitalist from Montgomery County to replace another as state treasurer of Pennsylvania.

Timothy Reese, a Temple graduate who grew up in West Philadelphia, has been nominated to replace Rob McCord, who resigned as treasurer before pleading guilty to federal campaign donation violations. Reese was asked about concerns he might have regarding the circumstances under which he would lead the Treasury Department.

"I don't know about that," he said. "I mean, I'm not Rob McCord, I'm Tim Reese."

Reese does say he believes his nomination may bring clarity for treasury employees. "Who's going to be the treasurer? Who's the next treasurer? What are going to be our program goals? At least I think now by having me named that they began a pathway towards a little more certainty," Reese said.

If confirmed by the state Senate, Reese would be the first African-American to serve as state treasurer.
