Montco Tourism Officials Trying To Drum Up Business In The Area

By Brad Segall

UPPER MERION, Pa. (CBS) - Tourism officials in Montgomery County are hosting about a dozen meeting planners from across the country hoping to convince them to bring their next convention to the area.

The competition in that industry can be stiff with organizations deciding which locations are the best for their membership. They look at a number of factors including accommodations, meeting space, shopping, cultural attractions and restaurants.

They are being hosted by the Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board and President Bill Fitzgerald says there's some sense of urgency here:

"Some of these people that we're going to be entertaining the weekend have leads out right now that we are competing against other destinations and potentially this 'fam' trip could convert some business that could impact 2014 and 2015."

Conventions he says can generate several million dollars creating jobs and future business.

Their tour will include the King of Prussia Mall, the village of Skippack, Valley Forge Park and Spring Mountain Adventures.
