Michael Vick: 'I'm Still A Starter'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) Michael Vick was a good soldier for the Eagles this season. From his vocal support of Riley Cooper during the pre-season, to his public backing of Nick Foles as the team's starting quarterback, Vick did not make waves when it would seem like the natural thing to do.
Now that the season is over, and it looks like Nick Foles is the heir apparent to the Eagles QB throne, Vick is making it clear: he's not here to sit on the bench.
"I'm still a starter," Vick told Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com after the Eagles playoff loss to the Saints. "I'm not a backup quarterback."
When asked if he would return to the Eagles to back up Foles, Vick simply shook his head no, Shorr-Parks writes.
Vick began the season the starter, after winning the job in training camp and the preseason. After Vick went down with a hamstring injury, Foles took the job and never looked back, save for a poor performance against the Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field.
Many have suggested that Vick may be an optimal backup for Foles, because he knows the system, and his body might not be up to the task of a starting job. It would appear Vick thinks differently.
