Couple sought in connection with fatal teen stabbing in Delaware County

DREXEL HILL, Pa. (CBS) -- Upper Darby police are asking for the public's help after a 15-year-old was fatally stabbed Friday night in Drexel Hill.

The stabbing at the 200 block of Bridge Street left 15-year-old Michael Garr, a 10th grader at Upper Darby High School, dead. A memorial for Garr is growing at the scene of the incident.

On Sunday, police released a photo of a couple seen walking toward Dennison Avenue from the area of Bridge and Anne Streets just after the time of the stabbing. Police believe they might've witnessed the incident.

Police aren't considering the couple as suspects at this time.

Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying the people in the picture and asking them to come forward.

Meanwhile, the Drexel Hill community is searching for answers for why this tragedy happened.

"He was just a child, it makes no sense," Jill Altmann, a friend of Garr's father, said.

Altmann's son grew up with Garr and described him as a big sports fan

"Michael would come up with his dad to watch Phillies games last year when the Phillies were making their playoff run," Altmann said.

She's at a loss for why this could happen.

"That's the question, he was a nice kid," Altmann said. "Nobody can figure it out. He was not a kid that was causing trouble. He was polite. He was respectful."

Daniel Kirby tried to help Garr as neighbors called 911

"We heard somebody screaming," Kirby said. "We came out the door and he's saying, 'Help me. Help him. Help,' and he's screaming, so everybody is running around trying to figure out what actually is going on. My wife ran in to get more towels to him."

"It was a nightmare, it really was, you never expect anything like that," he added.

Kirby is one of many left with more questions than answers, hopeful that those responsible will come forward.

If you live near Bridge Street or along the Baltimore Pike corridor of Clifton Heights, police are asking if you can provide any surveillance video from Friday, April 21 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Residents can send information to their email at info@udpd.org or tip line: 484-574-1157.

The Delaware County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 27 is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible.

On Monday, the Upper Darby School District will offer support services to help students grieve their classmate's death.
