Mayor Speaks On Philadelphia Fire Department Investigation

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Mayor Michael Nutter says he "concerned" about allegations that male members of the Philadelphia Fire Department engaged in sexual activity with a female member while on-duty at city firehouses and inside a fire department vehicle.
CBS 3 Eyewitness News reported first and exclusively Tuesday citing sources that the Philadelphia Inspector General investigated the allegations and that fire department officials, who now have the Inspector General's report are now weighing possible disciplinary action against as many as 12 male members.
An attorney for the female member, who is not under investigation, tells CBS 3 the alleged victim has no comment.
Sources say the allegations were first investigated by the Police Special Victims Unit months ago, but, after they found no grounds for criminal charges, the investigation was taken over by the Inspector General.
Cautioning he cannot reveal specifics about the investigation, the Mayor did say, once a decision on discipline is made, changes in fire department policies may be coming.
"If there are process and procedure issues, you can at least review, revise, revamp and then put new procedures in place," the Mayor told CBS 3's Walt Hunter.
Sources say a decision on discipline, if any, is expected within the next two weeks.
