Mayor Nutter Comes Out In Support Of Proposed Comcast Merger With Time Warner

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Mayor Nutter and dozens of other mayors have come out in support of the proposed Comcast merger with Time Warner.
The approximately 50 mayors have signed a letter to the FCC in support of the Comcast buyout of Time Warner. The letter said the merger will bring benefits to every affected city.
In a separate statement, Nutter praised Comcast as a great corporate citizen, and said the merger would lead to improved services in existing Comcast markets.
His position of support for the deal is in stark contrast to that of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. De Blasio has asked the New York State Public Service Commission to scrutinize the merger. He said it should not be approved if it is not in the interests of consumers.
Nutter is currently in Atlanta for the summer meeting of the Democratic National Committee and was not available for comment.
Comcast wants to buy Time Warner for $45 billion, and the resulting firm would be the largest cable company in the nation.
