Mother, Son Dead In Lawncrest Double Shooting

By Elizabeth Hur, Dan Wing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Police are investigating a double shooting in the Lawncrest section of Philadelphia Sunday that left a mother and her son dead.

Police say they were called to the home on the 300 block of Stevens Street around 3:30 p.m. after a 29-year old woman found the 49-year-old mother and her 22-year old son dead. Both victims, who police have identified as Donna and Rich Muller, were shot in the head, and both were pronounced dead at the scene. One of the bodies was found in an upstairs bedroom, and the other was discovered just outside in the hallway.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small says the investigation into what happened is underway:

"We don't have a motive at this time. However, we have several witnesses that were transported to homicide, and they're being interviewed by homicide detectives right now."

Shook up neighbors spoke with CBS3 Eyewitness News as the investigation began:

"It's crazy, you know? You don't know what to think when it happens on your own block just a few doors down."

Neighbors say Donna lived at the house with Rich and her daughter. It was her daughter, neighbors say, who found the bodies.

"I couldn't think of anybody who would ever want to hurt Rich or his family. He was the nicest guy," Brian Zukowski, a friend of the victim, said.

Friends and neighbors who spoke to CBS3 are baffled by this shooting. They say they cannot think of anyone who would do this, let alone why:

"She was very welcoming," Zukowski said of Donna. "If anybody needed somewhere to stay or something to eat, you could stay over at his house."

Police say there was no obvious sign of forced entry into the home and the home did not appear to have been ransacked.

The weapon used in the shooting has not been recovered, but police did find a shell casing. Police say the have no suspects at this time.

An investigation is ongoing.
