West Philadelphia Man Sentenced in Hot Coffee Attack Case

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A West Philadelphia man has been sentenced to prison for a devastating attack on a donut shop worker.
The prosecutor says 54-year-old David Timbers has been sentenced to 23 months in prison for throwing hot coffee that injured and scarred the young woman.
Prosecuctor Morgan Vedejs says defendant David Timbers had pleaded guilty to a crime caught on surveillance video.
"He got into a verbal argument with one of the cashiers in regards to what he paid for, that he pulled a cup from her hand and threw it at her. That cup was filled with hot coffee that caused second degree burns to the neck and arm of the victim," Vedejs said.
Vedejs say the physical scars are only part of the ongoing harm. She shared a victim impact with the court.
"She feels as though she has embarrassed her family and that she is embarrassed to see the scar on her arms," she said.
Timbers has called the act of rage the biggest mistake of his life.
