Man Critically Injured After Shot During Fight At SEPTA's 13th Street Trolley Station In Center City, Philadelphia Police Say
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A man was seriously injured after a shooting at the 13th Street Trolley Station on SEPTA's Market-Frankford line, Wednesday morning. Police tell Eyewitness News the man was shot at the underground station, near 13th and Market Streets in Center City, around 4:30 a.m.
Police say the man was shot following a fistfight with another man.
At some point, one of the men pulled out a shotgun and shot the other in the arm, before fleeing on foot.
Police say surveillance cameras captured the entire incident.
"You can clearly see the victim involved in a physical altercation, a fight, but they're actually fighting and wrestling on the ground and then that's when the victim gets shot," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.
The gunshot victim, described by police to be either in his 20s or 30s, ran to street level where he was found by responding officers and rushed to Jefferson University Hospital.
The trail of blood leads hundreds of feet around the trolley area and goes up two full flights of steps.
Police say the victim is in critical condition after losing a lot of blood.
Police have only a vague description of the suspect, saying he was wearing dark clothing with possibly a yellow stripe down his pants. They say he ran away after the shooting.
Police hope video from underground surrounding cameras on Market Street will help them determine which direction he ran.
The shooting did disrupt morning commutes, with SEPTA bypassing the 13th and Market Station throughout the morning.
