Main Line 'Preppie Drug Ring' Leader Gets 5-15 Years in Prison
By Brad Segall
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A onetime prep school graduate who, according to Montgomery County prosecutors, had set his sights on taking over the drug trade along the Main Line will spend at least five years in state prison after pleading guilty to a host of drug charges.
Neil Scott had nothing to say in court today after pleading guilty to several counts of possession with intent to deliver, running a "corrupt organization," and conspiracy.
The 25-year-old Haverford School graduate was sentenced to five to 15 years behind bars.
Judge Steven O'Neill called it a serious sentence for a serious crime. "You were peddling a hell of a lot of misery," he told the defendant.
Prosecutor Tonya Lupinacci says Scott employed sub-dealers who sold at five area high schools and three colleges, "but the buck stops with Neil Scott. He's the one who initiated this organization to infiltrate our schools with cocaine, with marijuana."
Ten others in this case have all admitted guilt and are awaiting sentencing.
Defense attorney Tom Egan says his client is a talented, productive young man who has learned a lesson and is looking to put this episode behind him.
