Long-Awaited Resurfacing Of Route 70 In South Jersey Set To Begin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's one of the most heavily traveled -- and roughest -- roads in our region. But it's about to get a facelift.
South Jersey drivers may be relieved to hear that work will begin next month to smooth-over the hard, bumpy asphalt surface of Route 70 through Cherry Hill, from Pennsauken to Cropwell Road. NJDOT spokesman Kevin Israel says the $9-million maintenance resurfacing begins in mid-June.
"The road surface, as anybody who's driven through it knows, is among the worst in the state," Israel said. "So our maintenance crews are looking to address it as soon as possible."
He says most of the milling and resurfacing will be done at off-peak hours, and lane closures will be kept to a minimum.
This work will take until next January. In 2019, the same eight-mile stretch of Route 70 from Pennsauken to Evesham is slated for a complete $50-million reconstruction.
