Local Relief Team Raises Money For Pets Displaced By Disasters
BENSALEM (CBS) -- A veterinary practice with several locations in the Delaware Valley hosted a fundraiser on Sunday in Bensalem for the Red Paw Emergency Relief Team, which rescues, and offers foster and medical care for, pets displaced by fire and other disasters.
The gray skies over Polanka Park brightened a bit Sunday, as folks lined up for a smooch at the puppy kissing booth. Red Paw Emergency Relief Team's Lori Albright says knowing their pets are safe is healing for fire victims, emotionally and physically -- as it was for a horrifically burned woman who spent six months in a medically induced coma.
"When they would bring her out, she would ask about the cats, and they could show her photos (showing) that they were okay," Albright says. "And her mom told us, that's what she thinks helped this woman recover."
Practice Manager Connie Griffin says the Sunday Fun Day's great way for World of Pets to raise money for and spread the word about Red Paw.
"They do it just for the love of animals, and just to help their fellow pet -- why wouldn't you help them? That's what we're here for, that's why we're in business -- to take care of peoples' pets," Griffin said.
