Local Pharmacy Offers New Way To Test If You May Need Mental Health Counseling

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- You can now get a blood pressure reading and may soon be able to find out if you need mental health counseling as you wait at the local pharmacy.
The Thomas Scattergood Behavioral Health Foundation in Philadelphia put out the challenge, how to make mental health care education available in the local retail health clinic.
President Joseph Pyle says the winning entry is a plan to have an electronic tablet in the waiting area that takes customers through a series of questions.
"It doesn't give you a diagnosis but it lets you know that maybe these are issues that you may want to talk to somebody about so it may target depression and point you in the direction of talking with a health care provider."
The program will be available at a QCare in the Northeast and he hopes other facilities will adopt it as well.
