Local Company Working To Make Workouts Environmentally Friendly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Chakra Fitwear, based in Philadelphia, will turn used plastic bottles into yoga pants for sale on the internet.

Co-founder Ashley Revay says she and her partner want to reduce the huge amount of trash tossed aside in this country.

"It actually takes over 700 years for plastic to actually decompose if you think about it. All the plastic that's in our oceans is just sitting there. Our fish are eating it then we are ultimately eating the fish, so it's not something really nice to think about and we just want to focus on putting that to use."

The women are currently raising money and plan to begin production next year.

The six designs feature all yoga-related themes. Pants will be made of 90 percent plastic, 10 percent spandex and will be made in the U.S.
