Lawyer Sentenced For Pocketing $579,000 Meant For Job Ads

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A New York attorney convicted of defrauding two international companies out of hundreds of thousands of dollars has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison.

Federal prosecutors in New Jersey say Marijan Cvjeticanin also must forfeit $668,977 under the sentence imposed Thursday. He also will have to serve three years of supervised release once he's freed from prison.

The 52-year-old St. James, New York man was found guilty last June on nine counts of mail fraud.

Cvjeticanin was a lawyer for a firm that specializes in immigration.

Prosecutors say he funneled advertising work for the two international companies to a firm that he secretly owned. They say he was paid about $579,000 for the work, even though he failed to place a majority of the ads.
