Last Call For Center City Fine-Dining Restaurant

By Jim Melwert

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- It's the end of the road for a landmark fine-dining establishment in Center City, as the Fountain Restaurant will serve its final dinner Saturday night.

The Fountain Restaurant in the Four Seasons Hotel on Logan Square is a Triple-A five-diamond and Forbes Travel Guide Five-star restaurant, the only in the region to hold such a distinction, but with the Four Seasons intending a move to the top of the planned Comcast Tower, the restaurant is closing its doors.

Chef William DiStefano says they picked the holiday weekend for the final dinner because they wanted the end to be a celebration.

"The transition's coming," he says, "so why not do it on our own terms?"

Chef DiStefano has been with the Fountain for 25 years of its 31 years, rising up the ranks from apprentice. He says don't expect anything other than a traditional Fountain experience tomorrow.

"The last night is going to be a traditional fountain experience," he said. "We didn't want to create anything different because the Fountain itself is special and we want the people to leave with that memory."

The restaurant will stay open for breakfast and lunch. The hotel will close its doors in June to prepare for the transition.
