Brawl At Delaware County Carnival From 'Out-Of-Town Troublemakers' Puts Permanent End To Event, Officials Say

ASTON, Pa. (CBS) -- A big brawl at an annual community carnival in Delaware County has prompted officials to put an end to the event permanently. Police swarmed the scene at 2900 Dutton Mill Road in Aston around 9:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Aston Township Police say a large crowd gathered at the annual fire department spring carnival and several fights broke out.

"The cops screaming, yelling, cursing at everyone, telling us to get out of the park, shutting down the park," said Javier Camacho, of Collingdale. "We were just there 20-30 minutes into it."

The police department had to call in help from other area departments to disperse the crowd. No injuries were reported, but several people were arrested.

Witnesses described enjoying a night out with family that quickly went from calm to chaotic.

"You heard a bunch of cops screaming, 'Get out, everybody get out'. There was at least 30 cops running. It was scary, it was scary. It was to the point where I was looking for my older daughter, telling her to call because I'm pushing her out of the way, because it was that scary," said Rose Murphy, of Collingdale.

Following the incident, the Aston Fire Department, which hosts the event, announced that the carnival would be permanently shut down.

"Which was once a local family tradition, has turned into a landing spot for out-of-town troublemakers," the department said in a Facebook post.

This is not only the end to a long-standing community tradition, but also the end of a major source of revenue, as this was a big fundraiser for the fire department.
