La Salle's Jasmine Alston Savors Big Performance

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The 2015-16 season has been a tough one for the La Salle University women's basketball team. The Explorers are 3-15 and they suffered their sixth straight loss on Monday, losing to Penn, 78-68.

However in that defeat, the Explorers got one of their most impressive performances in recent history as junior guard Jasmine Alston put together a triple-double, finishing with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists.

"It was actually pretty cool," Alston tells KYW Newsradio. "I kind of came close to it versus George Mason a few weeks ago (January 10th)."

In that game against the Patriots, Alston finished with 8 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. For the season, she is averaging 6.5 points (4th on the team), 6.9 rebounds (leads team) and 6.1 assists (also leads team).

The triple-double is the first for La Salle in at least two decades and Alston talks about whether she was aware of what was within her grasp as she closed in on the milestone.

"I didn't know I was getting close," Alston says. "But I usually do get a lot rebounds and my team was making the lay ups to my assists so I knew I was just a little behind in points. But when I had eight points, one of my assistant coaches said to me, 'Go get another basket.' I knew at that point it must have been something because when we played George Mason, he said the same thing."

So which stat column does she like filling up the most?

"I think assists," Alston says. "Because we usually have trouble scoring a lot this year so getting my teammates going then really opens it up for me. So that's what I like."

Alston and the Explorers return to action on Saturday when they visit St. Louis.
