KOP Mall Expansion To Open In August

UPPER MERION TOWNSHIP (CBS) -- The new connector at the King of Prussia Mall will open in mid-August. The last hard hat tour of the construction was held today and offered a sneak peak of the expansion.

The connector between what is now the Court and the Plaza will open August 18th. Simon Malls president, David Contis says that's no easy task.

"We had to build it over two roads, we had to tear down a parking deck, we had to connect to three department stores," explained Contis.

Officials say when the expansion is complete, KOP's retail footprint will total 2.86 million square feet -- making the largest mall in the country (based on pure retail space) even bigger.

Contis says the 155,000 square foot expansion will house 50 new stores centered around a dining pavilion called Savor King of Prussia.

"[It] will have six farm-to fresh table little emporium eateries which we're really excited -- it will give people a little different way to dine than they would find in a typical mall."

Including Kevin Sbraga's Fat Ham, and Michelin-starred chef Michael White's Nicoletta. The shared-restaurant seating area will have charging stations, and the expansion will also have valet parking in a re-done, better lit garage.

Once the connector opens there will be no more Court and Plaza, it will just be one King of Prussia Mall.
