Klay Thompson Scores NBA Record 37 Points In A Quarter
By Ray Boyd
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- While most of us were sleeping on Friday night, NBA fans on the west coast were witnessing history. Warriors guard Klay Thompson set an NBA record scoring 37 points in the third quarter against the Kings.
In the third quarter, Thompson hit all 13 shots that he took, including nine three-pointers.
Entire teams do not score 37 points in a quarter and players do not typically score 37 points in a game. What Thompson did was truly special.
Interestingly enough, Thompson only finished the game with 52 points, 48 shy of Wilt Chamberlain's NBA record of 100 points in a game while he played for the Philadelphia Warriors. With that said, Chamberlain never scored as many points in a single quarter as Thompson did.
Thompson surpassed a number of NBA greats to take over the record for points in a quarter which included Chamberlain (31), Davis Thompson (32), Carmelo Anthony (33) and George Gervin (33).
